Mixtec architecture
Mixtec architecture. A Meso-American people, the Mixtecs lived in a region in modern Mexico alongside the Pacific shore-line. Unlike the Aztecs they did not build pyramidal structures. At Mitla, one of their major settlements, there are the remains of large houses, including the Palace of the Columns (c.1000) embellished with fine geometrical patterns, suggesting a sophisticated culture capable of producing impressive architecture.
