Metz, Odo of
Metz, Odo of (fl. c.792–805). Architect of the Palatine Chapel or Minster at Aachen, Germany, begun by Charlemagne c.790, that was modelled on San Vitale, Ravenna, but toughened and made more robust in the process. It may also have been derived from the C6 Chrysotriclinion (Hall of State) in Constantinople in order to suggest Imperial splendour.
