AIA and the Global Automotive Aftermar-ket Symposium Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To financially support deserving secondary, college and university students intending to pursue a career in automotive aftermarket. Focus: Automotive technology. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduating high school senior or have graduated from high school within the past two years; must be enrolled in a college-level program, university or an accredited automotive technical program through either a CAMPE college or a CARS-approved institute; must be attending a full-time program in Canada or the United States. Criteria: Applicants will be selected based on their academic merit.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Application forms are available at the website. Applicants must prepare a copy of the current school transcript with official school seal; must submit an essay (at least 250 words in length, no longer than one page, double-spaced); letter of recommendation (from a non-family member, preferably an employer, teacher or someone other than a family friend). Deadline: June 15.

Hans McCorriston Motive Power Machinist Grant Programs (Postgraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To support students pursuing careers as motive power machinists. Focus: Automotive technology. Qualif.: Applicants must be enrolled in the AIA Motive Power Machinist Training Program or a college-level machinist training program within Canada. Criteria: Applications and other supporting documents are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee.

Funds Avail.: $500,000. To Apply: Applicant must fill up the application form available at the website. Deadline: October 15.

Remarks: Grant is named after Hans McCorriston, in honor of his contributions to the motive power industry. Contact: Patty Kettles at the above address (see entry 1568).

Arthur Paulin Automotive Aftermarket Scholarship Awards (Postgraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide monetary assistance to deserving students in the automotive field. Focus: Automotive technology. Qualif.: Applicants must be enrolled in an automotive aftermarket industry-related program or curriculum at a Canadian college or university. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the Scholarship Committee's review of applications and other supporting documents.

Funds Avail.: $700,000. To Apply: Application form is available at the website. Applicants must submit a letter stating his/her long-term automotive goals; and a letter from his/her automotive instructor; recent academic achievements, as well as achievements in the automotive sector. Deadline: October 31.

Remarks: Scholarship award was named after long-time AIA volunteer Arthur Paulin, who served on the AIA board of directors for more than nine years.

Marion Roberts Memorial Scholarships (Postgraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance and encouragement enabling students to further their education at the post-secondary school level. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicant must be a dependent child or spouse of a full-time employee in an active ad AIA member company; confirmation of the parent's/spouse employment must be provided by the member company. Applicant must be enrolled in a full-time post-secondary program leading to a degree, certificate or diploma at an accredited university, college, technical school or C.E.G.E.P Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the Scholarship Committee's review of applications.

Funds Avail.: Amount not specified. To Apply: Applicants must fill up the application form available at the website; must prepare a letter that demonstrates leadership ability in school, social or other activities; must have a transcript indicating academic achievement, with an official seal or photocopy of the seal of the school; recent passport-sized photo. Deadline: July 15.

Remarks: Funds established in honor of Marion Roberts, a long-time staff member of the association's head office in Ottawa.

SEMA Memorial Scholarships (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To support educational goals for students pursuing careers in the automotive aftermarkets. Focus: Automotive technology. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduate-level students at an accredited university or college; four-year accredited university or college; three-year accredited university or community college; or vocational/technical school. Criteria: Applications are reviewed and scored by

an independent panel comprised of business professionals.

Funds Avail.: $1,000-$4,000, depending on the category. To Apply: Applicants must submit an official transcript; two letters of recommendation from (a non-family member) employer, career counselors or professor on company letterhead; current photographs (head shot) for publication and promotional use.
