New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology was founded in 1889. It is accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. It first offered distance learning courses in 2000. In fall 2003, there were 70 students enrolled in distance learning courses. Institutionally administered financial aid is available to distance learners.
