State-supported, comprehensive, coed. Part of Texas A&M University System. Awards bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. Founded 1878. Setting: 1,440-acre small town campus with easy access to Houston. Endowment: $33.9 million. Research spending 2003-04: $11.2 million. Total enrollment: 8,350. Faculty: 467 (381 full-time, 86 part-time). Student-undergrad faculty ratio is 18:1. 2,803 applied, 98% were admitted. 4% from top 10% of their high school class, 8% from top quarter, 63% from top half. Full-time: 5,758 students, 54% women, 46% men. Part-time: 566 students, 69% women, 31% men.
