STEVENS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

Graduate School Distance Learning Programs
Hoboken, New Jersey

Stevens Institute of Technology, one of the world's premier technical universities, offers an array of Web-based distance learning graduate programs from WebCampus. Stevens is ranked among the top twenty-five schools with entrepreneurial programs. Optimize magazine selected Stevens as one of the five schools that prepare technology managers. Stevens is one of only three schools accredited by the Project Management Institute. Stevens has won the Sloan Consortium's top award for best "institution-wide online teaching and learning programming" and the US Distance Learning Association's "21st Century Award for Best Practices is Distance Learning." Stevens offers thirteen master's degree programs and thirty-one graduate certificate programs in engineering, management, and science online..

Students are instructed by noted faculty members who deliver the same superior courses taught on the main campus. Off-campus courses are conveniently offered at corporate sites. Many classes include a real-time Web conferencing component. Stevens is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. WebCampus is cosponsored by the Association of Computing Machinery (AMC), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the National Exchange Carrier Association (NECA).

Distance Learning Program

Graduate certificates for professionals seeking advanced knowledge in science, engineering, and management are available online through WebCampus. In addition, a wide range of off-campus graduate degree programs in engineering, management, computer science, and mathematics, among other disciplines, are taught at corporate sites.

Delivery Media

Stevens has been at the forefront of distance learning for a number of years, offering instructor-led courses that take advantage of the benefits of Web conferencing and other net applications. WebCampus online graduate students use rich Web features such as real-time and recorded lectures, threaded discussions, chat, bulletin boards, e-mail, file sharing, whiteboards, and work groups for in-depth online participation. Students also have online library privileges, with instant search and retrieval of important databases such as the IEEE Electronic Library and Hoovers Company Records.

Programs of Study

Master's degree and certificate programs include biomedical engineering, construction management, cybersecurity, database systems, digital signal processing, engineering management, environmental engineering, financial engineering, human resource management, microelectronics, multimedia technology, networked information systems, pharmaceutical management, pharmaceutical manufacturing, photonics, professional communications, project management, software engineering, systems engineering, technology management, and telecommunications management.

Graduate certificate programs offer students the opportunity to focus on a specific area of study without having to complete a master's degree program. Credits earned toward a graduate cer tificate at Stevens may also be applied to a master's degree should students wish to continue their studies.

Off campus, at corporate and other sites, graduate students may enroll as part of company-sponsored programs, some of which are delivered using Web conferencing. Employees at some of the nation's most progressive and prominent companies, including Boeing, Johnson & Johnson, Con Ed, Verizon, and dozens of others, may take graduate certificate courses and master's degree courses in a number of disciplines at corporate sites. These include computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, management, mechanical engineering, project management, technology management, and telecommunications management.

For high school seniors who wish to get a head start on their college studies, Stevens created the Euclid Program of Online Courses. The Euclid Program covers the following areas: calculus and advanced math, computer science, and physics.

Student Services

Online learning graduate students access the entire range of Stevens' student services online, including faculty advising, books and materials ordering, admissions, registration, and financial aid. Graduate students also have instant online access to the school's digital library. A cyberlibrarian is available via e-mail and telephone to guide students in the use of electronic databases and other research tools and media. Technical and other help desk support services are also available online. Stevens' Student Information System allows distance learners to access course schedules, grades, account statements, and other documents entirely online.

Credit Options

All graduate courses are worth 3 credits. Most graduate certificates are awarded after students have completed four courses online, on campus, or both. To earn a master's degree in engineering and science, students are required to complete ten courses. Students must complete twelve courses for a master's degree in management.

Faculty

An impressive graduate faculty teaches courses at Stevens, providing the same superior instruction online and on and off campus. WebCampus faculty members are required to participate in teaching and learning colloquia, which are held periodically during each semester, in order to share their experiences and to demonstrate their online teaching capabilities. Faculty members who teach online are also trained in how to exploit the technological and pedagogical benefits of Web-based courseware applications.
