Description:

Independent Christian Reformed, 4-year, coed. Awards bachelor's degrees. Founded 1959. Setting: 53-acre suburban campus with easy access to Chicago. Endowment: $5.1 million. Research spending 2003-04: $58,923. Educational spending 2003-04: $5804 per student. Total enrollment: 1,234. Student-undergrad faculty ratio is 13:1. 600 applied, 94% were admitted. 16% from top 10% of their high school class, 34% from top quarter, 62% from top half. 1 valedictorian. Full-time: 1,050 students, 63% women, 37% men. Part-time: 184 students, 67% women, 33% men. Students come from 38 states and territories, 12 other countries, 55% from out-of-state, 0.2% Native American, 4% Hispanic, 7% black, 2% Asian American or Pacific Islander, 2% international, 17% 25 or older, 67% live on campus, 7% transferred in. Application fee: $20. Comprehensive fee: $22,444 includes full-time tuition ($16,250), mandatory fees ($150), and college room and board ($6044). College room only: $3224. Room and board charges vary according to board plan. Part-time tuition: $545 per semester hour. Part-time tuition varies according to course load.

Collegiate Environment:

Orientation program. Drama-theater group, choral group, student-run newspaper. Social organizations: 15 open to all. Most popular organizations: Student Association, student ministries, student-run campus newspaper, Pro-Life Task Force, PACE (prison tutoring program). Major annual events: OPUS, The Gathering, Convocation. Student services: personal-psychological counseling. Campus security: 24-hour emergency response devices, student patrols, late night transport-escort service. 768 college housing spaces available; 657 were occupied in 2003-04. Freshmen guaranteed college housing. On-campus residence required through senior year. Option: coed housing available. Jenny Huizenga Memorial Library with 77,833 books, 34,690 microform titles, 437 serials, 820 audiovisual materials, an OPAC, and a Web page. Operations spending 2003-04: $286,278. 140 computers available on campus for general student use. A campuswide network can be accessed from student residence rooms and from off campus.
