The Homeland Security Graduate Fellowships (Graduate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To pursue basic science and technology innovations that can be applied to the DHS mission. Focus: Science technologies; Engineering; Mathematics and mathematical sciences. Qualif.: Applicants must be a U.S. citizen as of the application deadline; applicants must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA from the institution granting the bachelor's degree of 3.30 or higher on a 4.00 scale; applicants must have a cumulative graduate GPA of 3.30 or higher on a 4.00 scale if currently enrolled in graduate school; applicants must be pursuing a doctoral or masters degree with a thesis requirement in a homeland security science, technology, engineering or mathematics field with interest in a homeland security research area; applicants must also be a college senior as of the application deadline; applicants must also be bachelor's degree but not currently enrolled and completed not more than two graduate courses since completion of the bachelor's degree; or if applicant is enrolled full-time in the first year of a master's program and completed not more than two graduate courses since completion of a bachelor's degree or if enrolled part-time in graduate courses and wish to enroll full-time in a Ph.D. master's program, completed not more than two graduate courses since completion of a bachelor's degree; and if an applicant is a veterinary medical student who is enrolled at an accredited school or college of veterinary medicine and who is currently in the fourth year of professional curriculum leading to a DVM or VMD degree and begin a postgraduate course of study are also eligible to apply. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the candidate's academic record; reference report; GRE test scores; research experience essay; current research interest essay; and contribution to public service.

Funds Avail.: $2,300. To Apply: Applicants must complete the online application form; two online reference report forms; applicants must submit an official academic transcript from all postsecondary institutions attended. Deadline: January 7 for online application form; January 14 for reference report and required documents.

The Homeland Security Undergraduate Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To pursue basic science and technology innovations that can be applied to the DHS mission. Focus: Science technologies; Engineering; Mathematics and mathematical sciences. Qualif.: Applicants must be a U.S. citizen as of the application deadline; applicants must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.30 or higher on a 4.00 scale; applicants must be majoring in a homeland security science, technology, engineering or mathematics field with interest in a homeland security research area; applicants must be in second year of college if been attending college full-time; applicants must have completed a total of at least 45 but not more than 60 semester hours if been attending on a part-time, or combination or part-time and full-time basis. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the candidate's academic record; reference report; SAT or ACT test scores; Research experience essay; current research interests essay; and contribution to public service essay.
