Emma L. Bowen Foundation Scholarships for Minority Interests in Media work/study Program (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To create a career opportunities in media industry for minority youth that focuses on scholastic achievement, direct work experience and professional development. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicant must be African American, Hispanic, Asian or Native American rising high school senior, graduating high school senior or college freshman; must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and interest in pursuing a career in media industry; must be planning to attend a four-year accredited college or university; must be a U.S. citizen or a legal resident of United States and can speak and write English fluently. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on academic performance and financial need.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Applicants must submit an official transcript, at least two educational references from teachers and advisors and a 500 to 1,000 word essay; must submit an original and two copies of application in an envelope. Deadline: May 9.

Brown and Caldwell Minority Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist Virginia Tech in creating a welcoming environment that affirms and celebrates the diversity of its community particularly those from underrepresented and historically marginalized populations. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be full-time minority students in their junior year of study; must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and must be majoring in engineering and science-related studies; must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents; must be able to commit to an eight-week summer internship. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on academic performance and financial need.

Funds Avail.: $3,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a 250 word essay stating the reasons of choosing environmental disciplines as major. Deadline: May 1.
