electric furnace
electric furnace Enclosure heated to a very high temperature by an electric current. Electric furnaces are used in industry for melting metals and other materials. Three main methods of heating are used: striking an arc between electrodes in the furnace; producing currents in the material by electromagnetic induction; and passing a high current through the material, heat being produced because of its resistance.
