Bodhgāya
Bodhgāya. On the Nairañjana River, Bihar, the legendary site of the Bo Tree under which the Buddha gained final enlightenment. A major place of pilgrimage, tradition ascribes the foundation of a temple on this spot to Aśoka. See also DHARMAPĀLA.
