Caliban
Caliban in Shakespeare's The Tempest, the brutish and degraded son of the witch Sycorax, who has been forced to serve Prospero; in contrast to the ‘airy spirit’ Ariel, he typifies a gross and animal nature. His name may represent either ‘Carib’ or ‘cannibal’.
