Tam o' Shanter

Tam o' Shanter the hero of Robert Burns's poem of that name, a Scottish farmer who on his way home from an alehouse comes across witches dancing, and is chased by them; the name tam o'shanter is used for a round woollen or cloth cap of Scottish origin, with a bobble in the centre, of a kind formerly worn by Scottish ploughmen.
