Andresote
Andresote
Andresote (Andrés López Del Rosario), the zambo leader of the rebellion in Venezuela against the Compañía Guipuzcoana of Caracas in 1730–1733. Andresote dealt in contraband in the region of Yaracuy, mocking the controls which the Compañía Guipuzcoana sought to place on the commerce of the province of Venezuela. To protect his interests, the director general of the compañía ordered his arrest. Andresote and his followers clashed violently with the authorities and representatives of the compañía in their effort to continue their contraband operations with the island of Curaçao. Troops were sent from Caracas to put down Andresote's group, but when they failed to accomplish this in 1732, the commander in chief of Venezuela vowed to combat him personally. Andresote fled in 1733 to Curaçao, where he died a short while later.
