Katu

The Katu (Cò Tu, Kato, Ka-Tu) are a group of swidden rice, maize, and cassava cultivators located primarily along the Laos-Vietnam border in central Vietnam. The 1985 census of Vietnam enumerated 36,967 Katu. Katu means "savage" and is a term of reference used by outsiders. The Katu name themselves after specific villages where they live.
