MISKITO COAST CREOLE, also Miskito Coast Creole English, Nicaraguan English. The language of the Creoles of the Miskito Coast (the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua and Honduras, named after Carib Indians known as Miskitos). Its focus is Bluefields, Pearl Lagoon, and Corn Island in Nicaragua and it is a second language of many Amerindian and SPANISH speakers. It dates from the mid-17c and is similar to other varieties of CREOLE, but its vocabulary has been influenced by Spanish and Chibcha. See CARIBBEAN ENGLISH CREOLE.
