Pak Thai

Also known as the "Pak Tai" and "Southern Thai," the approximately 4,500,000 (1981) speakers of Tai who reside in about fourteen different provinces in southern Thailand are called "Pak Thai" by the Thai. They are primarily wet-rice agriculturalists and cattle breeders. Although most Pak Thai are Buddhists, more than a million of them are Muslims. They speak a variety of dialects of Tai, often referred to as dambrö.
