DHIKR (Zikr)

Arabic term describing "the reminder, the evocation" of the various names of God during a religious ceremony, particularly in Sufi groups. Dhikr occurs under the supervision of a shaykh. It is thought to penetrate the chanter with a portion of the divine spirit conveyed in each of God's names.
