Kiryat Arba (Qiryat Arba; "City of the Four," in Hebrew)
KIRYAT ARBA (Qiryat Arba; "City of the Four," in Hebrew)
Name of the sepulcher that contains the remains of the great patriarchs of Israel (Tomb of the Patriarchs). Biblical tradition identifies this place with the city of the Hebron. This name is also that of a Jewish settlement on the outskirts of Hebron known for its militant leadership and commitment to the extension of Jewish sovereignty over disputed territories. Under the 1997 Hebron Agreement, Kiryat Arba retained a link to the site of the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron, while the rest of the city of Hebron was transferred to the Palestinian Authority as part of the Oslo Accords.
