Abd al-Hafiz
Abd al-Hafiz (äb´däl-häfēd´), 1875?–1937, sultan of Morocco (1908–12). Placed on the throne by the revolution that deposed his brother Abd al-Aziz IV, he was soon confronted with uprisings and the demands of European creditors. Besieged (1911) at Fès by rebels, he was relieved by a French army. On Mar. 30, 1912, he accepted a French protectorate, and on Aug. 12 he abdicated.
