Ångermanälven

Ångermanälven (ông´ərmänĕl´vən), river, c.280 mi (450 km) long, rising in Västerbotten prov., W central Sweden, and flowing generally southeast through narrow lakes and past Sollefteå and Kramfors to the Gulf of Bothnia at Härnösand. The Faxeälven is its chief tributary. There are numerous hydroelectric power plants on the river. The Sandö Bridge (866 ft/264 m long; opened 1943), the largest concrete-arch bridge when it opened, spans the river.
