Charles de Valois Angoulême, comte d'Auvergne, duc d' (shärl də välwä´ kôNt dōvĕrn´yə dük däNgōōlĕm´), 1573–1650, illegitimate son of King Charles IX of France. He turned against King Henry IV, conspired with Henriette d'Entragues, his half-sister, and was imprisoned until 1616. After his release he held military commands. He left memoirs.
