Émile Cammaerts (āmēl´ kä´märts), 1878–1953, Belgian poet. In 1908 he settled in England, becoming a professor at the Univ. of London in 1933. His poetry of World War I, which appeared in French, was translated and collected in Belgian Poems (1915) and New Belgian Poems (1916). Later works, in English, include Upon This Rock (1943), a poignant character sketch of a son killed in the war, and volumes on Belgian history and culture.
