Francesco Bonaventura Cavalieri (fränchās´kō bōnävāntōō´rä kävälyā´rē), 1598–1647, Italian mathematician, a Jesuit priest. Professor at Bologna from 1629, he invented the method of indivisibles (1635) that foreshadowed integral calculus.
