Cuala Press
Cuala Press (kōō´lä), private printing press founded in Dundrum, Ireland, in 1902 by Elizabeth and Lily Yeats, the sisters of William Butler Yeats. Called the Dun Emer Press until 1908, it began as part of a larger company whose purpose was to provide employment for Irish women. Until it ceased operation in the late 1940s, the press followed a program of publishing works by contemporary Irish writers and new editions and translations of Irish classics. Its publications emphasized literary merit rather than fine printing. Among the authors whose works were published by the Cuala Press are Yeats, Lionel Johnson, Lady Gregory, John Millington Synge, John Masefield, and Louis MacNeice.
