Dąbrowa Górnicza (dôNbrô´vä gôrnē´chä), Ger. Dombrowa, city (1993 est. pop. 139,700), Śląskie prov., SE Poland, on the Czarna Przemsza River, a tributary of the Vistula. It is a railway junction and a center of the Katowice mining and industrial region. Coal mining in the area dates from 1796. Coal mining and steel production are the chief economic activities. Dąbrowa Górnicza passed to Prussia in 1795 and to Russia in 1815. During the 19th cent. it was an important center for research in mining and metallurgy. The city reverted to Poland in 1919.
