Gunbad-e-Qabus

Gunbad-e-Qabus (gŏŏnbäd´-ĕ-kôbŏŏ´) or Gonbad-e Kavus (gōnbäd´-ĕ kôvōōs´), city (1991 pop. 102,768), Mazandaran prov., N Iran, on the Gorgan River. It is an agricultural trade center. The 236-ft-tall (72-m) decagonal brick tower there was built in AD 1006, reputedly as the tomb of the amir of S Caspian region of Tabaristan.
