Schönbrunn (shönbrŏŏn´), former imperial palace in Vienna, built during the reigns of Emperor Charles VI and Maria Theresa. Mainly designed by Fischer von Erlach, it is a splendid example of Austrian baroque. Its beautiful park, emulating Versailles, has a large zoological and botanical garden. Both palace and park were damaged during World War II. By the Peace of Schönbrunn (1809), imposed by Napoleon I, Austria temporarily lost W Galicia to the grand duchy of Warsaw, and Illyria to France.
