Wenceslaus III (king of Bohemia)
Wenceslaus III, c.1289–1306, king of Bohemia (1305–6) and of Hungary (1301–5), son and successor of Wenceslaus II. On the death of Andrew III of Hungary, last of the Arpad dynasty, he was elected (1301) king of Hungary. Unable to assert his authority in Hungary, he relinquished (1305) his claim to Duke Otto of Bavaria. Wenceslaus tried, however, to assert his hereditary claim to the Polish crown, but he was assassinated at Olomouc while marching to Poland. He was the last of the dynasty of the Premyslids. After an interregnum, John of Luxemburg, who married Wenceslaus's sister, was elected (1310) king of Bohemia.
