Ānāpāna

Ānāpāna (Skt.). Control of breathing in Hindu yoga. Ānāpānasati (Pāli) is a corresponding Buddhist technique (in sixteen stages or ways), counting breaths in and out, which calms the mind and is a preparation for attainment of the dhyānas. Cf. also Anahana in Zen Buddhism.
