ḥanīf

Ḥanīf (Arab., pl. ḥunafāʿ; probably from Syriac ḥanpē, ‘pagans’). In the Qurʾān, a believer in the One God; a seeker after truth; it is sometimes equivalent to muslim in the broadest sense of a worshipper of Allāh.
