Moggalliputta, Tissa
Moggalliputta, Tissa (3rd cent. BCE). Leading Buddhist monk and scholar. He is said to have presided over the 3rd Council in the reign of Aśoka, when the final part of the Buddhist canon, the Abhidhamma, was closed. At the end of the Council, Moggalliputta composed the Kathavatthu (The Book of Controversies). The work is of importance in reviewing the Vibhajjavādin/Theravādin objections to other schools of early Buddhism.
