BACON, YIDEL
BACON, YIDEL (1886–1954), ḥazzan. Yidel Bacon was born in Kolbuszow and belonged to the Bacon family of cantors. He studied cantorial singing with Cantor Baruch Shorr in Lvov. He sang in the choir of Cantor Eliezer Goldberg in Cracow, where he studied at the conservatory. He served as a cantor in Lancut in Galicia and from there moved to Leipzig. Later he moved to the United States and served as cantor at the Attorney Synagogue in New York City. He composed music for many sections of the prayer service and assisted in the training of cantors. Some of his compositions for the prayers of the High Holy Days have been published by the Cantorial Council of America.
