KOMÁROMI CSIPKÉS, GYÖRGY°
KOMÁROMI CSIPKÉS, GYÖRGY ° (1628–1678), Calvinist Bible translator, born in Komárom (Komarno), Hungary. After studying at Utrecht and other places, Komáromi was professor of Hebrew at the reformed academy in Debrecen, Hungary. He published an Oratio Hebraea (Utrecht, 1653) and a Hebrew grammar (1654), but his main significance is as reviser of the translation of the Bible into Hungarian. He completed this version in 1675, although it was not published earlier than 1718. His Catalogus operum…Comoronii (Claudiopolis (Ger. Klausenburg; Hung. Kolozsvár), 1677), gives a list of his own works.
