Pius X School of Liturgical Music
PIUS X SCHOOL OF LITURGICAL MUSIC
The Pius X School of Liturgical Music was the first school founded to give Catholics in the United States the opportunity to share in the revival of church music urged by Pope St. Pius X. It was organized in 1916 at Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart in New York City (now located at Purchase, New York). The school was founded as a partnership between Mother Georgia Stevens and Mrs. Justine B. Ward. The school was subsequently affiliated with the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in 1954. The school continued as a center of liturgical music until 1969, when a unilateral administrative decision combined the function of the School with that of the music department of Manhattanville College.
