Simeon ben Samuel of Joinville
SIMEON BEN SAMUEL OF JOINVILLE
SIMEON BEN SAMUEL OF JOINVILLE (12th–13th century), French scholar. Simeon's father was a contemporary of Jacob *Tam, who on one occasion relied upon him for a halakhic ruling. Simeon was a pupil of *Isaac b. Samuel of Dampierre, with whom he was on particularly intimate terms. He is very frequently mentioned in the standard tosafot and his commentary on various tractates of the Talmud is cited in the works of rishonim. A few of his responsa have survived.
