SPIEGEL, LUDWIG
SPIEGEL, LUDWIG (1864–1926), Czech educator and politician. Spiegel, who was professor of constitutional law at the German University of Prague, was one of the leaders of the German Democratic Party and a member of the Senate (upper chamber of deputies; 1920–25). In 1926 he was elected rector of the university in spite of his being a Jew (see also Samuel *Steinherz), but died before assuming office. His works include Die Geschichtliche Entwicklung des Oesterreichischen Staatsrechts (1905), Die Verwaltungsrechtswissenschaft (1909), Gesetz und Recht (1913), and Die Entstehung des Tschechoslowakischen Staats (1921).
