Amorphophallus (family Araceae) A genus of giant herbs producing a corm-like rhizome that can weigh 50–70 kg and is cultivated for food in some species. The plants bear few leaves, which are several times palmate, on a long erect stalk, and are sometimes huge, up to several metres across. The inflorescence has a powerful, foetid odour. It is sometimes massive (2–4 m tall in A. titanum) and the spathe is blotched purple. There are about 90 species, native to Africa and Asia.
