Arctic and subarctic floristic region
Arctic and subarctic floristic region Part of R. Good's (The Geography of the Flowering Plants, 1974) boreal kingdom, corresponding to the treeless wastes north of the boreal conifer zone. There are virtually no endemic (see ENDEMISM) genera, which suggests that this is possibly the youngest flora in the world. The flora has two components: one Arctic, which includes the endemic species; the other Arctic-alpine. See also FLORAL PROVINCE and FLORISTIC REGION.
