Arctic front The frontal boundary between cold, Arctic air and warmer air masses, usually lying to the south of it. Many depressions originate on it. In north-western Canada in winter, for example, the frontal zone incorporates cold, dry, continental polar air and modified maritime Arctic air from the Gulf of Alaska to the north of continental tropical air.
