Botrydium (division Xanthophyta) A genus of siphonaceous algae in which the thallus is a spherical or pear-shaped, coenocytic (see COENOCYTE) vesicle up to 2mm in diameter. It grows on damp mud, soil, etc., to which it is anchored by colourless, branched rhizoids.
