castellanus From the Latin castellum, meaning ‘castle’, the name of a cloud species commonly associated with the upper parts of altocumulus, stratocumulus, cirrus, and cirrocumulus. Cumuliform, turreted protrusions extend in a linear fashion from the cloud top, producing a crenulate form. See also cloud classification.
