Equatorial undercurrent (Cromwell current) A shallow, subsurface, eastward-flowing current in the central Pacific Ocean between 1.5° S and 1.5° N. The current is 300 km wide and flows at up to 1.5 m/s at depths of 50–300m. The surface waters in this area flow in the opposite direction.
