Eulerian current measurement A technique for measuring the direction and speed of water movement at a series of fixed points. A current-measuring device is held at a fixed point and as the water flows past its speed is measured. A series of measurements taken at different times or places may be plotted on a map as individual current vectors or streamlines. A number of devices exist for Eulerian current measurement, the most common being the propeller-type current meter. It is named after the Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler (1707–83).
