flavoprotein A conjugated protein in which the prosthetic group is a flavin nucleotide coenzyme such as flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) or riboflavin mononucleotide (FMN); some flavoproteins contain either haem or metal ions in addition. They are widely distributed in cells of all types and serve as electron transport agents.
