Giganthuridae (subclass Actinopterygii, order Salmoniformes) A small family of deep-sea fish, all of which have a large mouth with depressible teeth, tubular, telescopic eyes, a scaleless body, high pectoral fins, and a long lower lobe to the forked tail fin. The small giganthurids (15 cm) occur at depths exceeding 2000 m. There are five species, found world-wide.
