Grammistidae (soapfish, six-lined perch; subclass Actinopterygii, order Perciformes) A small family of marine, deep-bodied fish in which all the fins have a rounded profile. Typically, members of the family are able when disturbed to release a thick mucus, which turns into a soapy froth. There are about 17 species, occurring in the Indo-Pacific and Atlantic, some among coral reefs.
