isopach

isopach A contour line joining points of equal thickness in a rock layer. The isopach should represent the true thickness, i.e. corrected for dip effects, but this is rare. Isopachs are essential for estimating the volumes and dispersal of volcanic ashes (i.e. the thickness in centimetres or metres of an airfall ash around a volcanic vent).
