Mauritia
Mauritia (family Palmae) A genus of big fan palms which are dioecious (female with some hermaphrodites). The paniculate inflorescences are borne among the leaves. The fruits are scaly. M.flexuosa of swamp forest provides useful fibre. There are 16 species, found in tropical S. America.
