(fl. Bengal, India, 1591–1599)
astronomy.
A Bengālī Brāhmạa, Rāghavānanda wrote a series of astrological and astronomical works toward the end of the sixteenth century. In astronomy, in which he was a follower of the Saurapaḳa (see essay in Supplement), he wrote a commentary, Sūryasiddhāntarahasya, on the Sūryasiddhānta 1591), which remains unpublished, and two sets of astronomical tables. The Viśvahita, also written in 1591, was published with an incorrect attribution to Mathurānātha Śarman by Viśvambhara Jyotịāṛava and Śrīścandra Jyotīratna (Calcutta, 1913); and the Dinacandrikā, composed in 1599, was edited with his own commentary and Bengālī translation by Bhagavatīcarạa Sṃtitīrtha (Calcutta, 1913). Rāghavānanda’s astrological works include a Spạ̣ajātakapaddhati, sometimes called Vidagdhatọịī.
